Summary

This document is report for an inventory and limited awareness program that was undertaken to evaluate the potential impacts on cultural resources of two communications cable projects at VAFB. The inventory resulted in the discovery of five archaeological sites (4 prehistoric, 1 historic) and four cultural resource isolates. A limited assessment program was undertaken at the newly recorded sites (CA-SBA-1865H, 1866, 1867, 1868, and 1869) and at five previously identified sites (CA-SBA-513, 939, 940, 941, and 741) which were near the proposed cable alignments. The object of the testing was to gather additional information about sites believed to be potentially eligible for nomination to the NRHP and to recommend meausres to mitigate possible impacts.

The assessment program concurred with previous determinations that CA-SBA-939, 941, and 513 are signficant resources eligible for nomination to the NRHP. Newly recorded recorded sites CA-SBA-1865H and 1868 are also potentially eligible. Recommendations to avoid or mitigate impacts are offered to preserve these significant cultural resources.
