Summary

While on Ossabaw Island conducting a survey for the Boarding House at the North End of the Island, members of the Archaeology Unit of the Historic Preservation Division of Department of Natural Resources decided to conduct a site assessment of a known burial site that has been eroding from the bank of Newell Creek. It was evident upon inspection that a pit feature was clearly visible in the bank profile (Figure 1). Jennifer Bedell and Ryan Kennedy cleaned up the profile to find a very intricately built pit feature (Figure 2).
