Summary

Pollen and phytolith analysis was undertaken at the Bandolier Garden can the

historic property of El Zaguan to identify plants grown during the early years

the garden was cultivated. Pinch samples were collected from three major areas

in the garden at three vertical levels to provide information concerning the

overall mixture of plants cultivated in the garden. Area 3 exhibited less

disturbed soil and is assumed to have been never planted with ornamental flowers,

but instead have been planted in trees and ornamental shrubs. Pollen collected

fran this area acts as a control for interpretation of pollen from Areas 1 and

4U .
