POLLEN ANALYSIS OF TWO BELL-SHAPED CISTS FROM A NAVAJO OOCUPATICN AT LA72387

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1992

Summary

Pollen analysis was undertaken on the fill fran two bell-shaped cists that

exhibited oxidation rinds and contained charcoal and ash at IA72387. Radiocarbon

ages of 550 BP and 570 BP indicate a Navajo occupation. Pollen analysis was

designed to identify any plants that might have been processed within these

cists. In addition, two samples from the present ground surface were examined

as control samples to identify patterns of modern pollen transport and the modern

vegetation community represented in the pollen record.
