POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITES LA 79511 AND LA 89352, SAN JUAN COUNTY, NEW MEXICO

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1992

Summary

Ttoo midden features from Sites LA 79511 and IA 89352, New Mexico, were

sanpled for pollen and macrofloral remains. Both sites appear to be Anasazi

Pueblo I Piedra Phase habitations, based on ceramic types recovered. Pollen and

macrofloral analysis of sanples from these middens provides subsistence

information, as well as some paleoenvironmental information. In addition, one

metate fragment was washed for pollen in order to identify plants possibly ground

on this metate. Modern soil control sanples were collected to provide a

ccrrparison for the archaeological pollen samples, and the bottom of the metate

was washed to provide a control for the top of the metate.
