POLLEN ANALYSIS OF STRATIGRAPHIC MIDDEN DEPOSITS FROM GRAN QUlVERA NATIONAL MONUMENT, NEW MEXICO

Author(s): Linda J. Scott; PaleoResearch Institute

Year: 1985

Summary

Pollen analysis was undertaken at Gran Quivera in conjunction with

archaeological investigation of several midden areas. Stratigraphic pollen

columns were collected throughout various excavation units within the midden

in an effort to sample all of the glaze units represented. Two

stratigraphic columns were selected for analysis based on their glaze

components. Evidence of differentiation in plant utilization through time

was sought within this record. In addition, a generalized subsistence

strategy as reflected in the pollen record was sought through the pollen

sampling at this site. A few isolated feature samples and vessel and ground

wash study samples were also analyzed to contrast with the midden data.
