POLLEN ANALYSIS AT 5LP630, LA PLATA COUNTY, COLORADO
Author(s): Linda J. Scott
Year: 1982
Summary
Site 5LP630 is located in Ridges Basin approximately three miles south of
Durango, Colorado. The site contains a pithouse, which has been
archaeomagnetically dated to AD 775 and AD 777 (P. Duke, personal
communication). Archaeological excavation at this site was undertaken by the
Fort Lewis College Archaeological Field School in the summer of 1982. Several
pollen samples were taken from the fill of a pithouse at 20 cm intervals to a
depth of 160+ cm, and include a sample taken from the floor of the structure and
the fill of a vessel. The floor and vessel were sampled in an effort to gain
information relating to subsistence and possible horticulture at the site, while
the stratigraphic samples were taken in an effort to define the occupational and
post-occupational environment.
