POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SBa-14, CALIFORNIA

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1989

Summary

Pollen and macrofloral samples were collected from SBa-14, a cemetery

site, that appears to date between 6200 and 7400 BP. A remnant segment of a

house floor was noted in one of the undisturbed areas of the site. Pollen

analysis was undertaken to define local elements of the environment.

Macrofloral analysis concentrated on the recovery of identifiable elements

that may contribute to the interpretation of subsistence patterns for an

Early Period occupation. The site is located in the foothills above the

Carpinteria Slough approximately 3 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Native

vegetation was probably typical of the oak woodlands.
