American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009 Section 110 Compliance Report for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District, NHPA, Cultural Resources Investigations, Technical Report No. 23, Volume 2: Section 110 Survey of 662 Acres at the St. Francis Basin Mitigation Area, Dunklin County, Missouri

Summary

Between April 12th, and June 25th, 2010, Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted intensive cultural resources survey on 2,738 acres at four different mitigation projects within the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Memphis District in northeastern Arkansas, southeastern Missouri, and western Tennessee. Volume II presents the results of our findings in Missouri, the St. Francis Basin Mitigation Areas. The survey resulted in the identification of five previously unrecorded archaeological sites (23DU1581-23DU1585), in addition to the one site already known. These sites are located in Tract 103. No standing historic structures or other architectural resources were defined within any of the survey tracts. We recommend all five sites NRHP-ineligible. Conclusions drawn from this investigation indicate that the density of sites is quite low. Sites identified at the survey tract exhibit both prehistoric and historic components. However, these components are minor and disturbed. This ARRA-funded task order employed 42 specialists for a period of 13 months.
