POLLEN ANALYSIS AT 5WL453: A WOODLAND SITE IN NORTHEASTERN COLORADO (1980)
Pollen analysis was undertaken at 5WL453 in an effort to provide both ethnobotanical and envirorunental information about the site. This site is located on a terrace above the Little Thompson River near Johnstown, Colorado. The site is estimated to be a Late Woodland camp site or habitation site (Bob Lawrence, personal communication, March 1980). Maize agriculture was being practiced farther east during the Woodland period (Wedel 1961; Wood 1967), so one of the main objectives of the pollen...
POLLEN ANALYSIS AT THE HATCH SITE (5WL38) AND THE BERNHARDT SITE (5WL1860), NORTHEASTERN COLORADO (1992)
The Hatch site (5WL38) is located in the Pawnee National Grasslands of Weld County. Deposits identified as Late Plains Woodland were noted. A single hearth yielded a radiocarbon date of 880 + 50 BP (1070 + 50 AD). In addition, occupation zones were also noted and identified as Late Plains Woodland. Pollen samples were examined from the hearth fill, as well as each of two occupation zones. The Bernhardt site (5WL1860) is located approximately 100 meters southeast of the Dent site (5WL269)....
POLLEN ANALYSIS FOR SAMPLES FROM SITE 33LI1948, LICKING COUNTY, OHIO (2011)
Site 33Li1948, a small Middle Woodland occupation located in Licking County, Ohio, was sampled for pollen during Phase II site evaluation. Samples examined represent post molds, pits and possible pits, and control samples. Pollen analysis was used to identify vegetation growing in the vicinity of the site at the time of occupation and to search for evidence of economic activity.
POLLEN ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM 9GE10, A MIDDLE WOODLAND TO MISSISSIPPIAN MOUND CENTER IN CENTRAL GEORGIA (1988)
Thirteen pollen samples were selected for analysis from 9GE10, a Middle Woodland to Mississippian mound center in central Georgia. Located in the Wallace Reservoir/Lake Oconee area on the Oconee River near Greensboro, Georgia, this site contains evidence of occupation from four time periods (0-100 AD to 550-700 AD). Pollen samples were collected from archaeological features including pits and structures, or mound layers. Analysis focused on recovering data pertaining to local vegetation,...
Pollen Analysis of Sediments from Northeastern Colorado: Preliminary Report (1965)
Surface samples and stratigraphic sample series from 3 archaeological occupation sites and 2 samples from a burial site were examined for pollen in hopes of establishing a pollen sequence and paleoenvironmental interpretations. Both objectives achieved. Discussions of absolute dates of Woodland and Upper Republican contexts in this area and cultural ecology are included.
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT 5EP2, SOUTHEASTERN COLORADO (1988)
Site 5EP2 is located in a large rockshelter at the base of a sandstone cliff. The shelter faces approximately west-southwest. Plains Woodland artifacts were noted at the site, and radiocarbon ages of 1350 + 60 BP and 1490 + 60 BP were obtained from the base of the deposits. This site is the only site in the area to yield pottery so far. Pollen and macrofloral samples were collected stratigraphically at 5EP2 to assess paleoenvironmental conditions and to identify any evidence of...
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT THE KETTLE CREEK SITES (36CN199 AND 36CN165) , IN CLINTON COUNTY, NORTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA (1994)
Samples from two prehistoric sites on opposite banks of Kettle Creek (36CN199 and 36CN165) in Clinton County, north-central Pennsylvania, were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. These sites are multicomponent sites with occupations ranging from the Archaic through the Late Woodland periods. Pollen and macrofloral analyses are used to provide prehistoric subsistence information.
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM C&A SITE (5DA1687), COLORADO (2002)
Seventeen pollen samples were examined from the C&A site (5DA1687), a Plains Woodland site located near an intermittent drainage in DA County, Colorado. Pollen samples were collected stratigraphically through deposits at the site to identify past vegetation communities and provide information concerning the paleoenvironment. In addition, four pollen samples were examined from sediments beneath large rocks in excavation units in Blocks A and B. A small burial pit containing remains of two...
POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS OF A STRATIGRAPHIC PROFILE AND FEATURES FROM SITE 15OH161, OHIO COUNTY, KENTUCKY (2010)
Site 15OH161, an east-facing sandstone rockshelter site in Ohio County, western Kentucky, yielded evidence of multiple occupations. While only the Archaic and Early to Middle Woodland occupations were sampled for pollen analysis and radiocarbon dates reported for features from this site range from 6050 ± 40 BP to 4230 ± 40 BP, there is also a Late Woodland/Mississippian component. Only the Archaic components were in good context, therefore. Considerable disturbance as a result of human looting...
POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS OF CIRCULAR EARTHWORK SAMPLES FROM THE FORT CENTER SITE, 8GL13, GLADES COUNTY, FLORIDA (2011)
Fort Center, located in Glades County, Florida, provides evidence of Late Archaic; Early, Middle, and Late Woodland, Belle Glades, Calusa, Protohistoric, Seminole, and finally 19th and 20th century occupations. Thus, occupation at this 2.5 square km earthwork site dates between 800 BC and at least the late 1800s (Victor Thompson, personal communication, September 2010). Earlier work at this site included pollen analysis that reported consistent finds of Zea mays pollen. Verification or denial of...

Pollen Studies in the Apple Creek Area (1966)
Study of surface pollen samples and samples from 3 kinds of Middle Woodland features at this Illinois Valley site suggests occupation during the winter season.
POLLEN, FLOTATION, AND MACROBOTANICAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 5AH416, CENTRAL COLORADO (1996)
Samples from Site 5AH416 were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. All but one of the samples were recovered from unlined, cobble-filled hearths. The site is believed to represent a large, prehistoric open camp. This site may be a multicomponent site. Late Archaic style projectile points were recovered from the Feature 5 grid block, while cord-marked ceramics and small corner-notched points suggest seasonal Early Ceramic period (Woodland) occupations. Pollen and macrofloral analyses...
POLLEN, PHYTOLITH, AND ORGANIC RESIDUE (FTIR) ANALYSIS OF CERAMIC SHERDS AND AMS RADIOCARBON DATING OF MAMMAL BONE FROM THE LOWER FORT GARY NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE, MANITOBA, CANADA (2009)
Ceramic sherds from a single vessel were submitted for pollen, phytolith and organic residue analysis, along with mammal bone fragments for AMS radiocarbon dating. The ceramic sherds were tested for organic reside using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to determine materials the vessel contained.
POLLEN, PHYTOLITH, MACROFLORAL, AND CHARCOAL ANALYSES IN THE JEWETT MINE PROJECT AREA, TEXAS (1990)
Fossil pollen, phytoliths, macrofloral remains, and charcoal from archeological and geological sites at the Jewett Mine, Texas are analyzed in this appendix. Pollen analysis provides an overview of regional vegetation and hence paleoenvironments for this area. Pollen columns were collected at an alluvial geological site in the Buffalo Creek floodplain and at an archeological site, 41LN106, in the Lambs Creek drainage for this reconstruction. Companion phytolith samples were collected from the...
