Pollen analysis on the Beeline Highway Archaeological Project was oriented toward identifying the presence of prehistoric agave. In addition, concentrations of cholla pollen were sought. This analysis concentrated on the identification of subsistence-related pollen as an aid in the interpretation of subsistence activities of the prehistoric occupants.
POLLEN ANALYSIS FOR THE BIG CHICO CREEK ECOLOGICAL RESERVE, CALIFORNIA (2006)
Four sediment samples and a single ground stone from the Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve were submitted for pollen and starch analysis. This area is part of the Chico State BCCER project. The sediment samples represent individual levels and comprise an informal stratigraphic record. Pollen analysis was undertaken to document prehistoric vegetation during the time represented by these sediments and to examine the metate surface for evidence of food processing.

The Blue Point Site (48SW5734) contains a Pleistocene paleosol, an Alberta/Cody occupation, and other Archaic occupations. Radiocarbon ages from cultural features range from 9540 ± 40 BP to 7030 ± 210 BP. POLLEN ANALYSIS FOR THE BURRO FLATS TRENCH SITE, CALIFORNIA (2005)
Five samples from an overlying peat and underlying silt and mud layers within the most recent surface rupture at the Burro Flats Trench Site northeast of the town of Banning in Southern California were submitted for pollen analysis. The analysis was performed in order to determine whether the rupture can be associated with the 1812 Wrightwood earthquake or the Coachella Valley earthquake, circa 1700.

A few sediment samples from Trench 40 and Core 2, outside a fishpond at the Coco Palms Site on Kaua’i, were examined for pollen and microcharcoal to provide information concerning use of this area during the past. POLLEN ANALYSIS FOR THE DARKMOLD SITE, 5LP4991, COLORADO (2012)
The Darkmold Site, 5LP4991, represents Basketmaker II and Basketmaker III occupations in the Animal River Valley north of Durango, Colorado. A suite of ten sediment samples were submitted for pollen analysis. Eight of these samples were collected from features, three of which contained burials. The remaining two samples were collected from stratigraphic contexts for the purpose of providing environmental information and controls that would assist in the interpretation of the feature samples.

Thirty-three pollen samples from four sites on the Dove Creek Canal Reach III Project (sites SDLl12, 5DLl138, 5DL121B, and 5DLl120). Three sites represent Basketmaker III occupations, while the fourth is a late Basketmaker III/Pueblo I multi-component site. Samples were collected from floors, benches, and in association with groundstone to identify the subsistence base and address subsistence activities at these sites.

Twenty-three pollen samples, representing five archaeological sites in the Dove Mountain area, were examined. These sites are located in the upper bajada of the Tortolita Mountains that form the northern boundary of the Tucson Basin. Pollen samples were collected as composites from the floor of structures. The Haul Road site (48SW11645), located on a north-facing slope of a low ridge overlooking Tenmile Draw, exhibits evidence of multiple occupations. Five pollen samples were submitted from Trench 5 and a Waterline Extension Trench in downtown Honolulu. The 801 South Street Building B project explores wetland deposits that existed prior to development of downtown Honolulu. Pollen analysis examines these deposits for evidence that they were either a natural wetland or were modified and functioned as a pondfield or fishpond.

The Toltec to Prewitt Waterline Excavation project is located in the Red Mesa Valley near Prewitt, New Mexico. Four sites were examined, and all fall primarily within the cultural/temporal range of Late Pueblo II (AD 900 to 1100). Three pollen samples were examined from a Sambrito Phase pithouse located at Arboles Point in the San Juan Drainage Basin, Colorado. Samples were collected from the floor and two pits to identify foods processed and/or stored within the pithouse and to better understand subsistence at this site.

Sediment samples were collected beneath an oyster shell and from open matrix for pollen analysis from Calusa Island (8LL45), Florida. Radiocarbon dates on marine shell and mangrove wood charcoal provide intercepts of 825 and 765 BC. Pollen analysis of these two samples provides record of local vegetation and allows comparison of pollen preservation, measured by total pollen concentration, from these two contexts.
