The Mark Twain site (48SW13992) exhibits evidence of at least three occupation components. The oldest component includes three hearths, two of which were excavated into the regolith immediately above bedrock. Feature 3 yielded a radiocarbon age of 4410 ± 50 B.P. (2 Sigma 5280-5170 B.P., 5130 - 5100 B.P., and 5080 - 4860 B.P.). Features 3 and 4, both from this occupation, were sampled for pollen (Table 1).
