Sediment from a suspected privy pit and a post hole at Fort Clatsop, Oregon, was examined for pollen, starch, parasites, phytoliths, and macrofloral remains to obtain information that might assist in identifying the function of these pits. The presence of parasite eggs and/or recovery of probable food remains are used to determine a privy function.
