Of Stones and Spirits: Pursuing the Past of Antelope Hill (2000)
Antelope Hill (AZ X:8:7 [ASM]) is a well-known archaeological site in the lower Gila River valley. The hill has been used as a quarry for milling implements and many of its boulders are covered in petroglyphs. In response to a 500-year flood event, the Wellton-Mohawk Irrigation and Drainage District (WMIDD) proposed to use its quarry at Antelope Hill to supply rock to repair damaged water-control devices along the Gila River. This undertaking required a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of...
Ojo Bonito Archaeological Project (OBAP)
A survey and excavation project directed by Keith Kintigh and executed from 1983 through 1994. Approximate 58km2 were surveyed and 560 sites were recorded. Substantial excavations were undertaken at the Hinkson Site great house complex and Jaralosa Pueblo. Test excavations were completed at H-Spear, a Chacoan Great House located by the project and Ojo Bonito Pueblo. The project took place on the ranch of Mrs. Everett (Mabel) Hinkson (deceased). Most of the project work was done as a part of...

Sentinel Bluff Rockshelter is situated along the western edge of Turtle Creek in Tehama County, California. On an interior wall of the rockshelter are two negative hand pictographs created with a maroon-colored pigment that appears to have been “sprayed” around the hands. A small sample of the pigment was collected for elemental composition (pXRF) and organic residue (FTIR) analysis to determine whether the paint was made using organic compounds, mineral compounds, or a combination of the two....

Painted Cave Northern Arizona (1945)
The body of literature dealing with the archaeology of the San Juan drainage, while large, is strangely silent concerning the extreme northeastern corner of Arizona in the region of the Carrizo and Lukachukai Mountains. Prudden, in his classic study of the ruins in the San Juan watershed, mentions both surface and cave sites but they were small for the most part, and none received more than a cursory examination. Many years later, in 1924, a Peabody Museum expedition headed by Oliver LaFarge,...
