An Overview of Alaskan's Prehistoric Cultures (2018)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Thomas E. Gillispie.

This report provides an overview which adopts a basic approach that describes the broadest outlines of Alaska’s prehistoric culture history as seen against the backdrop of these environmental changes and geographic divides. Results of the many more advanced analyses of prehistoric behavior are omitted for the sake of simplicity, as are the details of the many scholarly debates important in the archaeological literature.

Phytolith Analysis of Samples from Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota (1980)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Susan Collins. George Rapp, Jr.. John A. Gifford. Dennis Rondine. Margaret Thompson.

Seventy-six plant samples and forty sediment samples from voyageurs National Park were analyzed for phytoliths. Leaf, stem, root, inflorescence, and where possible, seed phytoliths were extracted from each plant sample as a key against which sediment phytoliths could be compared. All phytoliths were examined by light microscopy using a research petrographic microscope equipped with a Nomarski Differential Interference Contrast (DIC) system. Some phytoliths were also studied using a Scanning...

POLLEN ANALYSIS OF A SAMPLE FROM THE SIBLEY SITE 1, SQUAW BAY, ONTARIO, CANADA (2018)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings.

One sediment sample from a 50 mm diameter core sample taken from the Sibley Site 1, Squaw Bay, Ontario, was collected and submitted for pollen analysis. The core exhibited rhythmic clay with visible dark and light bands. A portion of the core was AMS radiocarbon dated, producing an age of 13,800 ± 60 14C BP (Fred Dean, personal communication, September 6, 2018). The sample was submitted to identify the local vegetation around Lake Superior during the late Pleistocene.

POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS FOR THE BLACKLOG NARROWS MITIGATION, PENNSYLVANIA (2009)
DOCUMENT Full-Text R.A. Varney. Chad Yost. Linda Scott Cummings.

Five stratigraphic sediment samples from two locations at the Blacklog Narrows, Aughwick Watershed, Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania were submitted for pollen and phytolith analysis to help determine vegetation and climate change. The older deposits represent Pleistocene deposits more than 29,000 radiocarbon years old, while the younger set represents Holocene deposits.

POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS OF COPROLITE SAMPLES FROM YAKUTIA, RUSSIA AND THE PONTATOC RIDGE SHELTER, ARIZONA, USA (2018)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings.

Dung from locations in Arizona and Russia were submitted for pollen and phytolith analysis. Pontatoc Ridge Shelter exhibited a surface mat dating approximately 14,000 yr BP. Dung recovered from a pica nest in permafrost in association with Pleistocene-age mammals such as mammoth and rhino. Analysis of microscopic remains (pollen and phytoliths) was undertaken to identify local vegetation at the time each of these dung deposits accumulated.

POLLEN, PHYTOLITH, AND PROTEIN RESIDUE ANALYSIS AT SITES 48YE697 AND 48YE701, YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, WYOMING (1994)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Kathryn Puseman. Linda Scott Cummings. Rosa Maria Albert.

A stratigraphic column from Site 48YE697 on the north shore of Yellowstone Lake was sampled for pollen and phytoliths. This column sequence is believed to represent the entire Holocene, with bottom samples possibly representing the Holocene-Pleistocene transition. A soil sample from beneath a butchered bison skull with a radiocarbon date of 800 + 60 BP also was sampled for pollen and phytoliths. Pollen and phytolith analyses of these column and soil samples are used to address questions...

Preliminary Appraisal of the Archeological Resources of Onion Flat, Soral Creek, and Raft Lake Reservoirs, Big Horn River Basin, Fremont County, Wyoming (1949)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Richard P. Wheeler.

Archeological Investigations of the proposed Onion Flat, Soral Creek, and Raft Lake reservoirs, in the Big Horn River Basin, Fremont County, Wyoming, were made in June and July, 1949, by the Missouri River Basin Survey, Smithsonian Institution, The reservoirs are irrigation projects of the Bureau of Reclamation (see map accompanying this report), The surveys, made in accord with the memorandum of understanding between the Smithsonian Institution and the National Park Service, were undertaken in...

Preliminary Results of Phase 1 Data Recovery and a Phase 2 Data Recovery Plan for Archaeological Sites within Christopher Columbus Park, Tucson, Pima County, Arizona (2005)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Ellen Ruble.

Pima County and the City of Tucson have developed a Master Plan for the expansion of facilities at Christopher Columbus Park, located on the northwestern side of Tucson, Pima County, Arizona. Previous cultural resource surveys and test excavations have identified the presence of archaeological sites within the expansion area that will be affected by implementation of the Master Plan. Phase 1 data recovery excavations were conducted to determine the extent and distribution of subsurface cultural...

Summary of Quaternary Geology of the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska (1999)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Randall G. Updike. Henry R. Schmoll. Lynn A. Yehle.

This report discusses the quaternary geology of the Upper Cook Inlet region which is dominated by deposits of glacier retreats that followed repeated advances from both adjacent and more distant mountains. At several levels high on the mountains, there are remnant glacial deposits and other features of middle or older Pleistocene age.
