OBAP Ceramic Database (2016)
DATASET Keith Kintigh.

Classified ceramics from the Ojo Bonito Archaeological Project, both survey and excavation.

Ojo Bonito Archaeological Project (OBAP)
PROJECT Keith Kintigh. Arizona State University (ASU). Arizona State Parks.

A survey and excavation project directed by Keith Kintigh and executed from 1983 through 1994. Approximate 58km2 were surveyed and 560 sites were recorded. Substantial excavations were undertaken at the Hinkson Site great house complex and Jaralosa Pueblo. Test excavations were completed at H-Spear, a Chacoan Great House located by the project and Ojo Bonito Pueblo. The project took place on the ranch of Mrs. Everett (Mabel) Hinkson (deceased). The Oshara Tradition: Origins of Anasazi Cutlure (1973)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Cynthia Iriwin-Williams.

Some of the most intriguing problems in the p re his to r-y of the New World concern the origins and development of the sophisticated sedentary town-dwelling Indians of the Southwestern United States, particularly the Pueblos. Seventy five 'years of extensive research have yielded a considerable amount of infor- matron on the immediate background of these native Pueblo peo- pl es , whose prehistoric representatives archaeologists group under the term Anasazi Culture. However, almost all of this...

Photographs (1985)
DATASET Uploaded by: Jesse Clark

Photographs are one of the few remaining ways to examine the now inundated archaeological sites in the DAP. Photographic images add context to specific aspects of Anasazi life in the DAP area; in a sense, DAP photography "provides the investigator with ways to understand the spatial integration of households and communities" (Wilshusen et al. 1999:115). Only a fraction of all photographs taken during the project can be found in the published series of DAP reports. Individuals wishing to access...

Pithouses and Placemaking on the Southern Colorado Plateau (2015)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Sarah Herr. A.E. Rogge.

Pithouse period settlement on the southern Colorado Plateau was the subject of vibrant research in the mid-twentieth century as Southwest archaeologists explored the validity of the Mogollon and Anasazi archaeological culture areas. In subsequent years the region became a laboratory for anthropology, as the rich data lent itself to studies of population dynamics in the famously heady days of New Archaeology. Since the mid-1970s, research on these first millennium A.D. sites has been confined to...

POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT A BASKETMAKER II PITHOUSE NEAR FARMINGTON, NEW MEXICO (1987)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda J. Scott. PaleoResearch Institute.

Four pollen and four macrofloral samples were collected and analyzed from an Early Basketmaker II pithouse located on Manzanares Mesa. The site is situated in a pinyon-juniper ecotone which contains far more juniper than pinyon. This pithouse is of vertical wall construction, and contained no pottery. Radiocarbon ages of 2020 ± 70 BP and 2200 ± 70 BP have been returned from wood interpreted to have been used in the house contruction. The pollen and macrofloral samples were analysed to...

Rare Rocks (1985)
DATASET Uploaded by: Jesse Clark

Items in the DAP nonflaked lithic tool assemblage and miscellaneous material files that represent “unusual materials of geologic origin” have been collected within a single rare rocks dataset (Keane and Clay 1987:507). More specifically, the dataset contains both naturally occurring and culturally modified items comprised of geological resources that are found in the Dolores Valley, or have been transported over long distances (Keane and Clay 1987). Items fashioned from rare material types are...

Samples (1985)
DATASET Uploaded by: Jesse Clark

Wilshusen et al. (1999) indicate that this dataset should be viewed as a comprehensive inventory of DAP samples by type and number. Samples were collected for a variety of reasons including chronometric dating, environmental and geological studies, and special documentation. Obtaining the results of their analysis requires users to consult other DAP datasets. Variables in the samples dataset have already been described by Wilshusen et al. (1999); see especially the section entitled "Samples" by...

The Seasonal Strategy (1971)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Cynthia Irwin-Williams.

In this seminar, we have proposed to explore seasonal economic organization among non-sedentary human groups, both prehistoric and contemporary. The objective of the current discussion is to point up certain features of seasonal economy, which can provide foci for reconstructing prehistoric cultures and bases for the generation of hypotheses concerning the derivation and general implications of seasonality, which can be tested with archaeological data. These hypotheses may be derived...
