Constructed prior to 1696 near Veracruz, Mexico, the Nuestra Señora del Rosario y Santiago Apostal was a powerful warship of the Spanish Armada de Barlovento. The ship served primarily as an escort vessel during its nine years at sea.  In addition to its primary duties Rosario led anti piracy patrols and fought in campaigns against other European powers in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.
