PALYNOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF SITE 5MTUMR2344
Author(s): Linda J. Scott
Year: 1974
Summary
This study concerns itself with the palynological analysis of archaeological pollen recovered in Mancos Canyon, Colorado. There are numerous pollen studies from various parts of the southwest, including several in the Mesa Verde area which are indeed valuable for comparison purposes with the Mancos Canyon (cf. Maher 1963, Martin and Byers 1965, and Schoenwetter 1970). However, there have been no previous pollen studies in the Mancos Canyon proper with which to compare this study. Therefore, it is hoped that this initial study will begin to establish a climatic base for the Mancos Canyon area, allow for comparison with other similar areas of the southwest, and provide a foundation for further pollen studies in the area. In addition to studying the climatic base, this study attempts to further interpret certain sampled cultural features.
