POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 5MT11950, COLORADO

Author(s): Kathryn Puseman; Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1999

Summary

Samples from features at Site 5MT11950 in southwest Colorado were analyzed for pollen

and macrofloral remains. This site represents a late Pueblo III Mesa Verde Anasazi habitation.

Pollen and/or macrofloral samples were recovered from a classic Mesa Verde style kiva, a

probable kiva, a slab-lined fire box, and a slab-lined hearth. Both the kiva and the probable kiva

appear to have been salvaged and burned prehistorically, probably after a short occupation.

Pollen and macrofloral analyses are used to provide information concerning plant resources that

were available to and/or utilized by the occupants of this site.
