EXAMINATION OF BULK SOIL AND AMS RADIOCARBON AGE DETERMINATION OF MATERIAL FROM PALEOSEISMIC TRENCHES ACROSS THE SAN ANDREAS FAULT, SAN MATEO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Author(s): Peter Kováčik
Year: 2013
Summary
Five bulk soil samples from paleoseismic trenches in San Mateo County, California were floated to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon age determination. These samples were recovered from three trenches across the San Andreas Fault at Crystal Springs South site (CSS), ranging in depths between 0.3–2 m below ground surface. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was separated. Nine AMS radiocarbon dates were obtained.
