Summary

Staff from the Cultural Resource Survey Program at the New York State Museum completed a reconnaissance survey along Route 9N in the Town of Hadley, Saratoga County, New York during December of 2006. This survey, which was completed through an interagency agreement between the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and the New York State Education Department (NYSED), was conducted according to guidelines and specifications outlined in the New York State Education Department Cultural Resource Survey Program Work Scope Specifications for Cultural Resource Investigations on New York State Department of Transportation Projects (NYSED 2004). The results of this project were determined based upon an extensive literature search, a walkover survey, subsurface testing, and an architectural survey of the project area. The project boundaries were determined based upon information provided by Richard Ambuske of the New York State Department of Transportation, Region 1. The PIN 1116.43.121 project area involves the replacement of BIN 1-00673-0 on its current alignment. BIN 1-00673-0 is located within the project limits and carries Route 9N over the Hudson River. As part of the bridge removal, on-site detours are likely to occur within the project limits and temporary easement and access areas may be needed. The bridge was previously evaluated and an architectural evaluation of the structure is included in this report (R. Ambuske, Personal Communication, August 2006).

No extant structures are located within the project area. During the reconnaissance survey, no archaeological sites were identified within the project limits. Staff from the Cultural Resource Survey Program at the New York State Museum completed this survey. All artifacts and field records are curated in the Division of Research and Collections at the New York State Museum in Albany.
