Finding Aid, Stockton Lake Survey and Assessment 1992-1993
Summary
This collection is referred to as The Stockton Lake Survey and Assessment 1992–1993. This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is one half (0.5) of a linear inch.
The documents in the investigation are both paper and electronic and include administrative, background, and report records. In particular, the documents include a property disposition voucher, transmittal documents for two archaeological reports, copies of Archaeological Survey of Missouri Survey Sheets from Dade County, and a final report in electronic form. The documents were received in good condition. They had no dirt or stains and required no cleaning or mending.
Initially, these records were separated into six folders organized into a general record series by the original repository, University of Missouri. Two of the original folders were empty and referred to two final reports associated with contract DACW41-92-C-0072. Although no final report was originally present, this document was obtained through the Defense Technical Information Center’s website (www.dtic.mil) and integrated into the investigation.
The documents span from 1961 to 1998 and reflect the information from site file copies collected during background research and administrative records from the original repository. Primarily, the document collection reflects information associated with Stockton Reservoir that was received by the University of Missouri from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District after September 1996. It was determined from the final report that the sites located within Dade County, Missouri, and documented in the site file copies, belong or are adjacent to the “Stockton Burial Complex.” It is also important to note that the project is associated with the Stockton Lake Wimmer Collection 19921993 investigation, which shares the same contract number, DACW41-92-C-0072. A note on the title page of this project’s final report describes the report as a sister document to the report entitled Stockton Lake Wimmer Collections, Analysis of Prehistoric Artifacts Collected by Howard R. Wimmer from Archaeological Sites in the Stockton Lake Project, Cedar and Dade Counties, Missouri written by Klinger and others in 1993. The present investigation is also associated with the archival project Stockton Lake Project 1984–1985, which reflects information about archaeological fieldwork conducted between 1984 and 1985 at the Stockton Reservoir.
