Roadmap Village (LA 45157) - Unit 1 Summary
Part of the Mogollon Prehistoric Landscapes Project (MPLP) project
Author(s): Margaret C. Nelson
Year: 2007
Summary
Unit 1 is a portion of a room located on the east end of the three contiguous rooms excavated to floor this field season. Unit 3 is directly west and Unit 2 is diagonally to the southwest. To the east is a badly looted room and the room to the north may be mostly intact. Unit 1 and the other two excavated units are located at the highest point on the block of rooms that forms the pueblo. We selected these rooms for excavation because we wanted to understand the construction sequence in the section of the pueblo that might be two-story and is well into the center of the roomblock. Unit 1 was selected, in particular, because it was deeply looted by pothunters. Thus, we could gain information from a portion of the site already disturbed and identify walls rather easily.
