Field School at the Troyer Site (12WB116) 1975-1976

Summary

Archaeological investigations were conducted by Ball State University at the Troyer Site (12WB116) under the direction of principal investigator B.K. Swartz, Jr. The field work consisted primarily of excavations performed as part of a field school, which ran during the summers of 1975 and 1976. The Troyer Site is located in Wabash County, Indiana near the Mississinewa Reservoir. The purpose of the field work was to locate the site of the Battle of Mississinewa (December 17 and 18, 1812) and Miami village sites within the Mississinewa Reservoir area, particularly the village of Miami leaders Metocina and Meshingomesia (Lewis 1976). One artifact from another site, 12HU663, was found with this investigation. For more information on what was done with this artifact see the “Sorting and Re-housing” section.
