Harry S. Truman Reservoir Excess Tracts Survey 1987

Summary

This collection is referred to as Harry S. Truman Reservoir Excess Tracts Survey 1987. This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is one and a half (1.5) linear inches.

The investigation consisted of administrative, field, analysis, and report records. The documents included a delivery order, a bailment agreement, a field notebook, notes, daily survey logs, a site analysis file, and draft and final reports with correspondence. Photographic materials, including negatives and contact sheets from two rolls of film, were also included within this investigation. The records were originally divided into five folders organized into a general record series. The documents were reorganized to reflect the appropriate series: Administrative, Field, Analysis, and Report.

The original condition of the contents of this investigation was assessed as good. There was no staining or dirt on the records, and a minimal amount of metal contaminants and plastic materials were present. Plastic binding was removed from the draft report. In the field notebook, staples were removed. Non-archival, pressure-sensitive tape within the field notebook was left intact due to the potential damage removal would cause to the integrity of the document.

Photographic materials were present in this document collection. A small portion of the negatives from the two rolls of film has scratch marks inherent to the medium. This aspect is not an issue; however, as the marks do not detract from images. Photographic materials were rehoused into appropriate containers.

There are several items of note within this investigation. For instance, it was discovered that the yellow handwritten field notes seem to match up with the daily survey logs. One discrepancy was present in the draft report transmittal letter. In the letter to Mr. Van Hartesveldt of the University of Missouri from Robert R. Ruf, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, he stated, “I would appreciate receiving your comments on this report by January 4, 1987.” The letter was created on December 3, 1987. It seems like the author actually meant to request the comments by January 4, 1988. Also, in the final report on page 48 in Figure 18, the author lists 23BR61 as the site number. This is likely a mistake because the county, Bollinger, is not within or near the subject property. The correct site number is believed to be 23BT61. The inclusive years for this project span from 1978 to 1988 and reflect the supplementary administrative documents found within the draft report and the submission date of the final report.

The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP), and include select archival photographs, finding aid, original investigation report, photographic materials spreadsheet, and scanned asset key.
