Hartwell and Thurmond Lakes Excess Tracts 1989

Summary

This collection is referred to as “Hartwell and Thurmond Lakes Excess Tracts 1989.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is a half (.5) linear inch.

The documents date from 1989 to 1990. The investigation occurred in 1989, which explains the date in the project name. The date range includes correspondence in the administrative records dating to 1990. The documents were originally stored in an acidic cardboard box in acidic folders with other document collections from the Strom Thurmond Lake area. The documents were lacking a discernible original order. The documents were in good condition. A few metal contaminants were found with the document collection, and these were removed using a microspatula.

The final report was found online at Georgia’s Natural, Archaeological, and Historic Resources Geographic Information System (www.gnahrgis.org/). The Georgia Archaeological Site File Report Number is 1110. A digital copy of the file was downloaded from the website and saved as part of the digital collection. The document was assigned an asset number for tracking purposes, and the report was printed on acid-free paper and inserted into the collection in a Report Records folder (Folder 5/1).

The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP), and include the finding aid, original investigation report, and the scanned asset key. Additional digital materials held by the VCP include the archives database, correspondence, document folder listing, initial data collection, inventory sheets, notes, photographic inventory, shovel test, site form, specimen catalog, and a transmittal form. For additional information on these materials, refer to the finding aid.
