Survey at Strom Thurmond Lake 1992-1993

Summary

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Savannah District archaeological collections were sent to the Veterans Curation Program’s (VCP) Washington, DC laboratory in the winter of 2010, and then moved to the Alexandria laboratory in August 2011. The Alexandria VCP laboratory is a USACE, St. Louis District’s Mandatory Center of Expertise for the Curation and Management of Archaeological Collections project, which is staffed through John Milner Associates, Inc., a cultural resource management firm located in Alexandria, VA.

The procedures employed to re-house the archaeological material from the Survey at Strom Thurmond Lake 1992-1993 investigation are discussed below and follow those procedures utilized by the Alexandria VCP laboratory. In the re-housing process of each investigative effort of the USACE, Savannah District collection, the same standard procedures were followed. Upon completion of the curation management project, the collection will be sent to USACE, Savannah District.

The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP), and include archival photographs, artifact database, artifact report, finding aid, photographic material database, and select artifact photographs. Additional digital materials held by the VCP include the archives database, additional artifact photographs, artifact inventory, document folder listing, initial data collection, lot control sheet, maps, notes, photographic material labels, records removal sheet, and a site form.
