Cultural Resources Reconnaissance of the Eastern Cabell County Wastewater Treatment Facility Area 1977-1981

Summary

This collection is referred to as “Cultural Resources Reconnaissance of the Eastern Cabell County Wastewater Treatment Facility Area 1977-1981.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is a quarter (0.25) of a linear inch.

The collection consists of the final report, which dates to March 1981. The report refers to previous research that was conducted in 1977, which explains the date in the project name. The name Jeffrey Graybill was stamped on the front cover of the report. His role in the investigation was unclear; therefore, he was not identified as the principal investigator. The document was originally housed in an acidic folder within an archival box and was in overall good condition. A staple was removed from the document using a microspatula. The staple holes and wrinkles or creases in the document were smoothed using a bone tool.

Three oversized maps stored in an acidic envelope were included as part of the final report. The maps were removed from the envelope and the front of the envelope was scanned. A copy of the envelope scan was printed on acid-free paper and stored at the end of the final report. The oversized maps were originally folded and required humidification and additional flattening with a bone tool. The oversized maps were separated from the original report and scanned. Copies of the maps were printed on acid-free paper and inserted into the original location within the final report. The oversized maps were assigned to the same Report Records folder (1/1), removed to oversized storage, and assigned a scanned asset number for tracking purposes.

The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP), and include the finding aid, original investigation report, oversized material spreadsheet, and scanned asset key. Additional digital materials held by VCP include the document folder listing, initial data collection, notes, oversized materials label, and records removal sheet. For additional information on these materials, refer to the finding aid.

DOCUMENT Full-Text US Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District.

A search of the pertinent literature and records on the Mud River drainage has produced information on 33 archeological sites and one National Register structure. The nature of the archeological sites and prehistoric settlement patterns and the fact that most sewer lines will be constructed along existing roads and through other disturbed areas makes it unlikely that unrecorded National Register sites will be affected by the project. A sewer line will be constructed adjacent to or over the Mud...
