Upper Yazoo Project-1 From SRM 75.6 to 107.8

Summary

The first step in the rehousing process is to obtain copies of cultural resource reports, artifact catalog sheets, and field notes pertaining to the collections from the St. Louis District archivist processing the archival collection. The analytical techniques employed by each organization to recover and process the collections were reviewed to gain familiarity with the previous archaeological work that had been conducted on the sites. The documentation for this investigative effort included the final report.

In the summer of 1976, under direction of the University of Mississippi, an archaeological and architectural survey was conducted within a 32.2-mile segment of the Yazoo River in order to assist the Corps in evaluating the extent, nature, and significance of cultural resources. The principal investigator was Robert M. Thorne, with Janet L. Ford and Victor P. Hood acting as field supervisors. For more information on this project, see Thorne et al. 1977.
