Archaeological Survey and Test Excavations in the Burnsville Reservoir 1971-1975

Summary

From 1971 to 1975, Bettye J. Broyles of the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey conducted an archaeological survey of the Burnsville Reservoir area in Braxton County, West Virginia. This work was conducted in advance of the creation of the Burnsville Reservoir. As a result of the survey, 43 archaeological sites were recorded. Artifacts collected from the following sites are included in this investigation: 46BX6, 46BX9, 46BX9(19), 46BX12-46BX15, 46BX16, 46BX16(26), 46BX17, 46BX17(27), 46BX18- 46BX20, 46BX21, 46BX21(31), 46BX37, and 46BX47-46BX49 (Broyles et al., 1975).

The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP) and include archival photographs, artifact report, artifact catalog, finding aid, original investigation report, oversized material spreadsheet, photographic material spreadsheet, scanned asset key, and select artifact photographs. Additional digital materials held by the VCP include additional artifact photographs, collection map, correspondence, data report, document folder listing, excavation record, feature record, field notes, initial data notes, original investigation report annotated, oversized labels, petroglyph record, site summary and site survey record.
