DOCUMENT Full-Text Mark D. Elson. David J. Street. Jeffrey S. Dean. Michael H. Ort.

The tree-ring dating by Terah Smiley in 1958 of the eruption of Sunset Crater Volcano to the year A.D. 1064 was crucial to the interpretation of the archaeology, geology, and paleoecology of Wupatki and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monuments and the northern Southwest United States in general. Significantly, this was also the world's first calendrical dating of a prehistoric volcano eruption, creating a new application for tree ring data. The dating of the Sunset Crater eruption was based on...

EXAMINATION OF CHARCOAL SAMPLES FOR RADIOCARBON DATABLE MATERIAL FROM ALONG TROUT CREEK, NORTHERN ARIZONA (2004)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Kathryn Puseman.

Three charcoal samples from along Trout Creek in northern Arizona were examined to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis. Niche Construction and Common Pool Resource Management in Marginal Environments: A Diachronic Approach (WGF - Dissertation Fieldwork Grant) (2018)
DOCUMENT Full-Text R. J. Sinensky.

This resource is an application for the Dissertation Fieldwork Grant from the Wenner-Gren Foundation. Anthropologists have long been concerned with the immense variety of collective institutions developed by small-scale societies to foster solidarity, inculcate values, and manage resources. Long-term studies tracking the development and maintenance of such institutions would greatly benefit a range of social science disciplines, but are unfortunately rare. To this end, the proposed project...

POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM SITE AR-O3-07-03-355, KAIBAB PLATEAU, NORTHERN ARIZONA (2009)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Kathryn Puseman. Linda Scott Cummings.

Fill from the probable floor of a circular, semi-subterranean pithouse at site AR-03-07-03-355 was examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. Formative period structures, including a late Pueblo II habitation/room block, also are present at the site. Radiocarbon dates of 1210 ± 40 BP and 1220 ± 40 BP were recovered from burned wood in the pithouse. Pollen and...
