Fifteen sediments samples collected from sediments in a possible ancient field area and canal were examined for pollen. Pollen analysis was used to determine whether or not evidence exists for use of this area for agricultural fields in the past. Traditional pollen counts were made of each sample, then single microscope slides were scanned to search for Zea mays (maize) pollen, since maize is the most likely agricultural crop.
