Four metates were collected from SLR144, a deeply stratified site on the bank of Kinney Springs Arroyo. Occupied during the early ceramic or late archaic period (AD 900-1000), this site yielded evidence of a square to rectangular house. These metates were selected for analysis to provide evidence of subsistence activity at the site. Evidence of the growth and use of cultigens (specifically corn) was sought on the metates.
