During excavation of the shelter by the Dolores Archaeological Program, the remains of five successive Anasazi occupations that date to between A.D. 750 and 950 were discovered. Sediment samples from midden deposits at Site CA-SBA-530 in southern California were floated to recover macrofloral remains. Six charred botanic samples from the midden deposits also were analyzed. Site CA-SBA-530 contains several midden deposits representing different occupations of the site. Macrofloral analysis is used to provide information concerning plant resources utilized by the various site occupants.
