POLLEN ANALYSIS FOR THE COCO PALMS SITE, KAUA’I, HAWAII (2004)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings.

A few sediment samples from Trench 40 and Core 2, outside a fishpond at the Coco Palms Site on Kaua’i, were examined for pollen and microcharcoal to provide information concerning use of this area during the past. Since the sediments were collected outside the fishpond, which had been dredged, they might represent earlier fishpond deposits from a time when the fishpond was larger than it is today. Radiocarbon ages returned for several samples indicate an age of 1440-1640 A.D. associated...

POLLEN ANALYSIS OF SEDIMENTS FROM KOWILI FISHPOND, SIHP# 50-80-14-5368, NEAR THE HONOLULU HARBOR, HAWAII (2006)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings.

Kuwili Fishpond (50-80-14-5368) is located under a large empty lot near the present day Honolulu Harbor. This fishpond, which might have been constructed as early as AD 1100, was used until at least the late 19th century. Radiocarbon ages concerning construction dates are problematic, so the archaeological project that produced the samples examined for pollen and microscopic charcoal will focus on obtaining new dates to document the date of original construction. Pollen and microscopic...
