ELEMENTAL COMPOSITION (XRF) ANALYSIS AND AMS RADIOCARBON AGE DETERMINATION OF A PAINTING (2019)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings.

Mr. Warren Crump provided PaleoResearch Institute access to a painting supposedly depicting Pope Julius II (AD 1443–1513) to determine when the artwork was produced. In addition, PaleoResearch performed an XRF scan of the artwork to identify elements of the pigments used in painting. During the course of radiocarbon age determination, PaleoResearch removed paint and other chemicals present on the linen prior to dating.

MACROFLORAL, PROTEIN RESIDUE (CIEP), AND ELEMENTAL COMPOSITION (XRF) ANALYSIS AND AMS RADIOCARBON AGE DETERMINATION OF SAMPLES FROM SITE 5LA12616 (OWENS CACHE), LAS ANIMAS COUNTY, COLORADO (2018)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings. Lee Drake. Peter Kováčik.

Site 5LA12616 (Owens Cache) is located within the Pinyon Canyon Maneuver Site in southeastern Colorado. The cache encountered under the bedrock niche consisted of three chipped stone tools and sparse micro-debitage. Stone tools were submitted for protein analysis (CIEP). Macrofloral and radiocarbon analysis were requested for two sediment samples collected in the vicinity of intact artifacts to recover and identify charred remains, including charcoal, that would be suitable for radiocarbon...

POLLEN, PHYTOLITH, STARCH, MACROFLORAL, ELEMENTAL COMPOSITION (XRF), AND ORGANIC RESIDUE (FTIR) ANALYSIS OF A STONE PIPE FROM THE JUNCTION SITE, DkPi-2, ALBERTA (2018)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings. Paul M. Miller.

A stone pipe fragment was recovered by Lifeways of Canada from the Junction Site (Site DkPi-2), near the junction of Hwy 2 and Crowsnest Highway, 3 km west of Fort MacLeod in southern Alberta, Canada. Given its association with other cultural materials, Lifeways of Canada suggest affiliation with the Old Women’s Phase. Lifeways of Canada submitted the stone pipe fragment to PaleoResearch for pollen, phytolith, starch, macrofloral, Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray...

PROTEIN RESIDUE (CIEP), ORGANIC RESIDUE (FTIR), ELEMENTAL COMPOSITION (XRF) ANALYSIS, AND AMS RADIOCARBON AGE DETERMINATION OF LITHIC SAMPLES FROM THE ANZICK SITE, 24PA506, PARK COUNTY, MONTANA (2018)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings. Caitlin A. Clark.

The Anzick Site (24PA506) is located in the intermontane Shields River Valley in Park County, Montana. This collapsed rockshelter contains burial features and an artifact assemblage. It was discovered by construction workers in 1968 (Stockton White, personal communication, October 17, 2018). The context of the site and burial and the original provenience of the artifacts are not known. Six lithics from the artifact assemblage were submitted for protein residue, and elemental composition (X-ray...

XRF ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM SITE CA-SHA-2435, SHASTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (2019)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings. R. A. Varney.

Two sediment samples and four rocks recovered in a trench at CA-SHA-2435 (Keswick Boat Ramp Cabin), situated on an ancestral terrace and hill along the Sacramento River, were submitted for analysis. A major historic (1890s to early 1900s) copper mining and smelting operation was located in this vicinity. A prehistoric camp is overlain by a cabin foundation and possible ore roasting features.
