The Route of the Soto Army through Alabama (1987)
The expedition of Hernando de Soto passed through what is now the southeastern United States in A.D. 1539-1541. The expedition consisted of approximately 600 soldiers, 400 slaves and laborers, 200 horses, and a herd of pigs that may have numbered in the hundreds.
