In October 2010, the Department of Defense (DoD) combined Charleston Air Force Base and Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Charleston into Joint Base Charleston (JBC) under Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) legislation. BRAC placed the Air Force in charge of all administrative and support activities at JBC with the 628th Air Wing (628 ABW), Air Mobility Command (AMC) acting as host unit for the installation.
