Chambers Group, Inc. has completed a cultural resource survey on Kirtland Air Force Base for ancillary facilities associated with the Starfire Optical Research Facility. The Center for Anthropological Studies has just completed an intensive archaeological survey or field examination of a 207 acre portion of Kirtland Air Force Base. Twenty loci of isolated artifacts and five historic sites were located. Diagnostic lithic and ceramic artifacts suggest the primary prehistoric use of this area by Rio Grande Anasazi Indian groups during the A.D. 1000-1350 period.
