    The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) assisted the Fort McDowell Indian Community (FMIC) with cultural resource investigations in advance of widening and realigning portions of Fort McDowell Road (also known as Mustang Way). These improvements were required to facilitate increased road use associated with the construction and operation of the Fort McDowell Indian Community Irrigated Farmland Development Project. This project presents the results of these undertakings.

Located on Bowl Creek along the western edge of the Chuska Mountains, Asaayi Dam was completed in 1964 by the Navajo Nation to provide opportunities for recreation and irrigation.     At the request of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), the Bureau of Reclamation–Phoenix Area Office (Reclamation) designed and constructed a new dam downstream of the existing Captain Tom Dam located near Newcomb, on the Navajo Nation, San Juan County, New Mexico. Data recovery was conducted by Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd., at three sites to mitigate the impacts of this undertaking, and to recover and protect a Navajo burial.
