    Cosmos Mindeff reported on the stabilization and preservation activities at Casa Grande Ruins in 1891 in the Thirteenth Annual Report of the Bureau of Ethnology. This work is the first known incident of the federal government actively preserving a prehistoric site. Casa Grande Ruins was established as the first cultural preserve the following year in 1892.
