Summary

Formative period archaeological sites in West-Central Colorado have stimulated debate and discussion related to its archaeological cultural classification. Indirect evidence and comparisons with recent artifact analysis for neighboring areas to the north and west of this region suggests that pan-Ancestral Puebloan culture influenced this area from 200 B.C. till A.D.1200. This interaction resulted either by trade and emulation or was developed by an earlier migration into the area. West-Central Colorado then presents to the archaeological community a unique study area where southwest connectivity had an effect to an area that materialistically indicates strong Mesa Verde ties.
