POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS OF A ROCK-FILLED PIT AT 24TT230, MONTANA

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1993

Summary

Two samples were examined for pollen and phytoliths from the fill of a

rock-filled pit at 24TT230. Radiocarbon ages place occupation between 1500 and

1600 AD. Pollen analysis was undertaken to provide evidence of subsistence

activities. Phytolith analysis was of particular interest to investigate the

possibility that Carex was used as a pit lining, as suggested by macrofloral

analysis.
