EXPLORATORY POLLEN ANALYSIS OF STRATIGRAPHIC SAMPLES FROM 41AT116, SOUTH TEXAS

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1993

Summary

Four pollen samples were examined as part of an archaeological testing

project in Atascosa County, southern Texas. Three pollen samples represent

stratigraphic units from a backhoe trench, while the fourth sample represents the

modern surface. As yet no radiocarbon ages are available for these sediments,

but late Paleoindian diagnostics were recovered from two of the other upland

sites. Exploratory pollen analysis was designed to determine whether or not

pollen preservation was sufficient in these sediments to warrant more extensive

analysis to provide paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic reconstructions for this

area.
