POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS IN THE WILLAMETTE NATIONAL FOREST (SITES 35LA190, 35LA902, AND 35LA46) , OREGON

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Rosa Maria Albert

Year: 1994

Summary

Companion pollen and phytolith samples were examined from the Olsen #1

Rockshelter (35LA190), Lahar Rockshelter (35LA902), and Brock Meadow (35LA46) . In the Olsen #1 Rockshelter samples were examined from the shallow deposits to provide information concerning prehistoric vegetation. Modern surface samples from the woods and meadow were examined to provide controls. Two groundstone samples also were examined to identify any evidence of utilization of these tools. At the Lahar Rockshelter only a single piece of groundstone was examined for evidence of economic activity. At Brock Meadow samples were collected stratigraphically from sediments to identify any changes in vegetation through time and to assess the pollen record for preservation.
