POLLEN ANALYSIS AT HAWAI'I-KAI, MAUNALUA, O'AHU

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1995

Summary

Six samples were collected from Hawai'i-Kai, Maunalua, O'ahu. Two parcels

are represented in this study, Kamilo Ridge and Kamilonui 2. The Kamilo Ridge

parcel is represented by stratigraphic samples collected from a trench in an

inland, modified outcrop terrace fronting an overhang shelter in a small leeward

valley on the southeast end of the Ko'olau Range. The Kamilonui 2 parcel

contains an inland agricultural complex consisting of a cluster of modified

outcrops and small dry terraces and plots. This parcel is located on a side

slope of Kamilonui Valley adjoining the Kamilo Ridge area to the northwest.

Pollen samples were collected and examined to identify vegetation associated with

occupation of these areas and to record any evidence of agricultural activity.
