POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM C&A SITE (5DA1687), COLORADO

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Kathryn Puseman

Year: 2002

Summary

Seventeen pollen samples were examined from the C&A site (5DA1687), a Plains

Woodland site located near an intermittent drainage in DA County, Colorado. Pollen samples were

collected stratigraphically through deposits at the site to identify past vegetation communities and

provide information concerning the paleoenvironment. In addition, four pollen samples were

examined from sediments beneath large rocks in excavation units in Blocks A and B. A small burial

pit containing remains of two people was sampled during excavation. Two charcoal samples and

a single pollen sample were examined from the burial pit matrix. Charcoal removed from this burial

pit was identified to genus prior to being submitted for a radiocarbon date. The pollen sample was

examined to provide information that might inform on time of year of burial or plants that might have

been included with the burial.
