Author(s): Kathryn Puseman
Year: 2008
Summary
Seven fragments of wood recovered from various locations on the wreck of the Reiling
Gold Dredge were submitted for identification. The Reiling Dredge was built in Golden,
Colorado, in 1904 and used to dredge Clear Creek, but was dismantled and taken to French
Gulch near Breckenridge, Colorado, in 1909. The dredge was in operation for 20 years before
it sank in a small pond. Identification of wood will provide information concerning lumber used
to construct various parts of the dredge.
