POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS AT THE BUCK HILL SITE (CA-ORA-684), IRVINE COAST, CALIFORNIA

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1989

Summary

Pollen and phytoliths samples were analyzed from four features and an

off-site column to examine subsistence activities involving vegetal foods at

the Buck Hill Site. This site is located to the northwest of Pelican Hill

overlooking Buck Gully to the north. Radiocarbon ages of 1000 ± 50 BP, 1500

± 80 BP, and 3480 ± 60 BP indicate at least three occupations. Examination

of pollen from an off-site column provides control for interpretation of the

pollen record of the features, and interpretation of subsistence activities.
