Summary

This collection is referred to as "Field School at the Conner Mill Site (12G57) 1983-1984.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is one (1.0) linear inch. The records were originally housed within a file folder within a plastic bag. The file folder was labeled “Field School at 12G57, Acc # 158F, Conner Mill” while the bag had the description “12G57, Field School-Conner Mill, 158F.” The investigation’s records were received in good condition and span from 1983 to 1988 due, respectively, to field records from the 1983 field school and an artifact catalog.

The paper and photographic documents within this collection were all received in good condition. A majority of the material consists of field records including photographic prints, negatives and slides, and photographic logs. Administrative and analysis documents also comprise the collection including site survey forms and catalog records. Throughout the records, the 12G57 site is referred to as either Conner Mill or Conner’s Mill.

Although there are minimal records and no final report within the collection to draw information about the investigation at the Conner Mill Site, information can be gleaned from the Field School at Sites 12WB90 and 12WB120 1981-1984 records. This connection is based on the fact that the 1983 field school crew worked on 12WB90, 12WB120 and 12G57 in tandem. Also, the original folder in which the Conner Mill documents were housed is labeled with a note stating, “see report in 12WB90/120 field school bag 2 of 2 for more info.” Thus, the principal investigator and other pertinent information for the current project can be cross-indexed with Field School at Sites 12WB90 and 12WB120 1981-1984. It should be noted that no contract number could be derived, but a permit number of DACW-27-3-83-87 is present.

Several aspects of this collection should be noted. In terms of the photographic materials, there may be some discrepancies with the labeling (151F.roll.frame) between the negatives, and the prints and slides. This stems from the fact that the negatives are not labeled with roll and frame information, and thus the accuracy of the labeling on the prints and slides cannot be evaluated. Also of note are the slide labels, several of which were relabeled. Additionally, there are two accession numbers affiliated with this investigation: 151F and 158F. Throughout the field and analysis records 151F is labeled. However, the number 158F is only labeled on the original file folder.
